underneath the green-lined sky, I’m reminded I’m back in the south. This is our second time passing through in these past 5 months. In my headphones Call It Love by Nilüfer Yanya plays and I can't help but think of all the love I feel when I’m here. A huge part of me feels like the love of my life is hiding behind the greenwood. Last night we played in Birmingham Alabama at the Saturn. The show was better than the last time we came through town but they both hold space in front of mine for me. people here present with a level of directness I’m drawn to. People I’ve sat and had a conversation with that I’d like to spend the next 5 nights with. There is something boundless here that pulls on me while I’m away.
More than the shows themselves stand out to me it's the characters that fill the beer-drenched floor that stick with me. I wish I could remember all of their names but hey I don't forget a face. Last night hailing from the 216 was Brandon if my memory serves me correctly. He’s the kind of person I’ve been looking for on the road. Honest, vulnerable, and sincere. He told me he moved to Birmingham a few years back to escape the trenches of Cleveland Ohio. Proud of how he had changed his life and to prove it he told me that there was a 2023 whip outside waiting on him when he left. Those are the people you meet that you hope you see next time you're in town.
There is a lot of road left on the tour and so much more work to be done. I feel good about where things are right now. I hope we end the run stronger than we started, with none of our pieces missing. Right now I’m just enjoying the music.
- Call It Love by Nilüfer Yanya: such a beautiful headphone song.
- Trouble with a Heartbreak by Jason Alden: This song came on the radio yesterday and now I’m hooked. It has such a great hook.
- Meeting People is Easy a film by Radiohead: I just want to know what it’s like to be the object of desire.
